Embracing Randomness…

Wondering what embracing randomness means? Explaining it quite literally, we can interpret this as Accepting The Unplanned. Not all our plans get successful, right? Especially the Goa plan with friends. Still, I am sure every one of you will agree that the unplanned trips are much better than the planned ones.

But not everything is that easy to accept, just as some of those questions that we find out to be “out of syllabus”. There are things that we don’t actually plan but we know for sure that, “these are the things that I want or don’t want in my life”. For example, You never really plan or desire for heartbreaks, do you? or let’s say you have worked arduously for your dream job but you end up losing it and now you have no plan.

You see, the question here is why do we find it difficult to accept and how do we deal with it?  A simple answer to this will be because we find it unfair, we weren’t expecting and we were not ready for this. Acceptance will only come after some self-criticising and analysis of what went wrong. It is natural and absolutely okay!

To help you deal with it, I will share the story of Mithila Palkar that she shared in her Tedx Seminar. Just like most of us (Especially, we Indians) she too had a plan for an ideal life i.e to study hard and get a job. She also had attained that lifestyle but what kept recalling in her mind throughout was her experience that she gained from volunteering in a theatre in her college days. So, somewhere in her mind, she wanted to become an actor.

She took her chance, and interestingly what kept her going in the audition days were the Mumbai Rikshawala. I would like to share her exact words on this,

“You know as Mumbaikers, we are trained to face rejection every single day, thanks to Rickshawalas because no matter where you want to go you will have to face at least 3 rejections before some kind soul comes along. Little did I know that these Rickshawalas are preparing me for the rejections I will be facing in my life ahead”.

The reason I used her example because what she added to this, later on, has really awakened me. She said that just because some Rickshawalas rejected doesn’t mean we give up going home. Why do we have to give up on anything just because some plans didn’t work out? All we need is passion. The rejections we face are only preparing us to be strong and to be better than before.

She uploaded a video a few years back, which she has prepared randomly while playing with cups and making different songs out of it. She asked her friend to take a video of it from her phone. The video went viral. She believes that the video that she had uploaded randomly without much planning might not have gained so much attention if she had spent time in thinking & planning to make a perfect video. The same video opened many opportunities for her and today we are admiring her so much.

I hope this was helpful and you know the importance of embracing randomness in life.
